13 Day/12 Night.

Day 1; Start Delhi; afternoon city tour.  Arrival in Delhi.  Refresh, rest up  and lunch followed by an afternoon visit to the  bustling walled city of Old Delhi with its distinct Mughal influence embodied in  the ramparts of the forbidding Red Fort. We visit the 17th Century Jama Masjid – the largest mosque in India and Rajghat – the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Evening time takes us to the heart of New Delhi, India Gate and the impressive colonial buildings around Connaught Place: Overnight Delhi

Day 2: Transfer to  the home of the Taj Mahal;  Agra:  Afternoon visit to the Red Fort and transfer to Agra (approx. 5 hrs drive) followed by afternoon visit to the majestic Red Fort of Akbar, whose mighty sandstone walls enclose the beautiful white marble Pearl Mosque and the palaces, halls, courtyards and fountains of his sons and successors, Jehangir and Shah Jahan. Overnight Agra.

Day 3: Sunrise at the Taj Mahal; to Ranthambore N.P. via Fatehpur Sikri. An  early start is rewarded view of  the sunrise over the Taj Mahal built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. You will have probably read all about it and seen images on TV but it remains a delight to behold. We  leave Agra and drive to Ranthambore National Park with an on-route visit to  Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar’s deserted royal city. This well-preserved citadel became his capital in 1571 with a wealth of palaces, and residences carved from red sandstone.(approx. 7/8 hrs drive). Overnight Ranthambore

Day 4: Morning/ evening game drives. Today is more relaxed as we take two game drives into beautiful Ranthambore National Park. Ranthambore is one of the best places to spot tigers in India and is also a sanctuary to monkey, deer, crocodile and a vast array of birdlife. Overnight Ranthambore

Day 5: Bundi: Hillside lake and Fort. We drive to the charming town of Bundi famous for its palaces and the beautifully decorated stepwells some dating to the 15th century which were used to collect water during the monsoon season. In the afternoon we visit the Bundi Fort, one of the most beautiful palaces in India,  home to outstanding miniature paintings portraying the history of the palace and its royal family. The fort is set high on a hill overlooking Bundi and its  blue stonewashed houses. (Approx. 4 hrs drive)

Day 6: To Historical Udaipur: Udaipur is deservedly popular with its stunning lake-side setting. It’s a pleasant 5 hour drive to our superbly situated hotel.(Approx 5 hour)

Day 7: Udaipur: Full day to explore Udaipur including visiting the City Palace and Jagdish Temple. The main palace has great views across lake and across to the Aravalli Hills. Lake Pichola has two islands each with it’s own palace. Udaipur’s landscape is dominated by the five gates and bastions of  the City Palace of the Maharana, which is still partly occupied by the Maharaja. Morning visit to the  City Palace and the seriously impressive Jagdish Temple. Afternoon free to enjoy the city with options including a visit  to the gardens of Gulab Bagh (Rose Garden) or take a boat trip on the lake.

Day 8: Jodhpur via Ranakpur and a visit to the Jain Temple. We follow the scenic road out Udaipur towards Jodhpur stopping on route at the  sublime 15th Century Jain Temple at Ranakpur. The marble temple has 29 halls supported by 1444 pillars, each carved with a different design.  The blue city of Jodhpur  is surrounded by  an immense wall almost ten kilometres in circumference and is dominated by the massive fort that stands on a rocky hill commanding the surrounding desert. (Approx. 7 hrs drive)

Day 9: Jodhpur and on to Pushkar. Morning visit to the magnificent Meherangarh Fort with a great view of the blue houses below.  The atmospheric fort hosts a collection of superb  carved sandstone screens and lattice windows. We then head to the desert setting of Pushkar,  an ancient pilgrimage town and home to the annual Pushkar Camel Fair. A super place to explore relax and soak up the atmosphere. (Approx. 6 hrs drive)

Day 10: Morning sightseeing; afternoon drive to Jaipur. Morning stroll around the holy Pushkar lake which is surrounded by a number of temples including the famous Bramha temple, reputed to be the only temple in the world dedicated the deity of Creation. In the afternoon we have a short drive to Jaipur. (Approx. 3 hrs drive)

Day 11:  Highlights of Jaipur. The ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur is one of the most attractive and colourful cities in India. Rajah Jai Singh abandoned his nearby fortress and palace at Amber in 1727 and laid out a planned city of broad avenues, built of sandstone and painted pink at a later stage. In the centre of Jaipur is the City Palace, formerly the residence of the Maharaja and a treasure trove of history. Nearby is the observatory of Jai Sing with it’s immense astronomical instruments made of marble and brass set in a pleasant garden. We then visit the iconic Hawa Mahal, The Palace of the Winds. Later we visit the impressive Amber Fort rising above a lake. The classical looking hilltop fort is a delight to explore and lose yourself in. Jaipur is one of India’s shopping delights, handicrafts, rugs, carpets, printed cloth, semi-precious stones, leatherwear, shop till you drop in the super-atmospheric bazaars.

Day 12: Drive from Jaipur to Delhi.  Drive back to Delhi (approx. 5-6 hrs). Afternoon free to relax, explore the sites of New and Old Delhi.

Day 13: Departures/Onward travel from Delhi.
